Film Rats Club

ABOUT US

Celebrating Cinema, Empowering Storytellers

Founded in 2017 by actor and director Martin Nwachukwu, The Film Rats Club is a dynamic community of over 150 cinephiles across Nigeria, dedicated to promoting and celebrating African cinema. Our mission is to champion the art of great filmmaking and honor the storytellers behind them through thought leadership—offering in-depth critiques, reviews, articles, and theses. We engage both our members and the public through film screenings, educational workshops, and insightful interviews with industry professionals.

In 2022, we launched The Annual Film Mischief (TAFM), a festival dedicated to showcasing the finest low-budget independent films with distinctive narratives and styles. TAFM serves as a platform for emerging filmmakers to present their work and engage with audiences through screenings, Q&A sessions, roundtable discussions, and seminars. Our commitment to nurturing talent extends to initiatives like Film Rats Yellow, which supports university students across Nigeria in developing their filmmaking skills and sharing their creative visions with a wider audience.

At The Film Rats Club, we believe in the transformative power of storytelling to shape culture and inspire change. Our dedication to film education and appreciation drives us to create opportunities for filmmakers and enthusiasts to connect, learn, and grow within the African cinema landscape.
