“Last Card” – A Tender Short Film on Grief and Family – Premieres April 30 on the Film Rats Club YouTube Channel

On Tuesday, April 30, 2025, the Film Rats Club will premiere Last Card, a short film that reflects on grief, emotional vulnerability, and the quiet strength of sibling relationships. The film will be available on the Film Rats Club YouTube channel.

Set in a modest family home in Western Nigeria, Last Card follows two siblings, Ayomide and Remilekun, as they try to make sense of their father’s sudden passing. Surrounded by condolence visitors and cultural expectations, they struggle to express their true emotions while still trying to hold each other together. The story captures both the silence and the small moments that reveal just how complicated mourning can be—especially for young people.

Last Card was created as part of the Film Rats Yellow Project, a community-driven initiative by the Film Rats Club that supports young filmmakers as they learn by doing. Every member of the cast and crew is part of the Film Rats Yellow community, making Last Card both a creative accomplishment and a hands-on learning experience for all involved.

With guidance and support from the Film Rats Club, the team worked together to bring this story to life—from scripting to editing—gaining hands-on experience while exploring a topic that touches many lives.

“This film was a chance for us to learn, experiment, and grow together,” said Oladele “Xith” Bello, Community lead at Film Rats Yellow. “We weren’t aiming for perfection—we just wanted to tell a story that felt honest, and to create a space where our members could build confidence in their craft.”

“This film Is a love letter to those who have faced darkness and emerged stronger. We are never alone” said Chinedu John, Director.

The film is directed by Chinedu John, written by Nwankwo Ozioma, produced by Victor “VA” Alókàn, and stars Elizabeth Bamgboye and Ethan Àbánikánndá, with supporting performances by Adedeji Silas (Natural), Ayenimelo Tosin, and Adeleke Abiodun Floral. Other crew includes Blessed Ifeoluwa and Emmanuel Aderibigbe (Directors of Photography), Chabod Oyejide (Editor), Joshua Jolayemi (Jayjayoluwa) (Sound Design), and Ogbo Mary Keona (Production Design).
